Library Object Manager

Library Object Manager

The Library Object Manager in ADE allows you to manage information about library objects that can be added to your airport.   Unlike Version 1,20 which allowed access to only a limited number of objects, Version 1.30 provides full access to objects and includes the ability to make   user developed object libraries available in ADE.   Access the Library Object Manager   from Tools > Library Object Manager.   It may take a few seconds to open while it loads the library object database depending on how many object there are.

Just change the value or text.   These are automatically saved in the current session but to save them permanently you much click the Save button when you have finished and before you close the Library Object Manager.

1. Tools Menu

Provides access to the Library Object Manager Tools.   Currently this is just the Tools to add new objects to the Library Manager

2. Library

Select "All" to display all the objects that Airport Design Editor knows about, or select a library from the list to show the objects in that library

3. Category

Select a category from here and Airport Design Editor will display all the objects in that category in the list.

4. Find Text

enter the text to be searched for in the text box and click the Find Text button.   This works on the Name Field of the object.   Any objects matching the text will be shown in the list.

5. Find Guid

Enter all or part of a Guid in the text box and click Find GUID.   All objects that match the search string will be displayed in the list.

6. Deleted Objects

Lists all the objects that are currently marked for deletion

7. Missing Thumbnail

Shows all the items in the object database for which Airport Design Editor cannot find a thumbnail

8. Object List

Shows the objects that meet your current selection criteria.   The details of the selected item will be shown in the fields to the right.

9. Delete

Deletes the selected Object in the list.     It is important to know that Airport Design Editor does not actually delete the object from the database at this time, nor does it delete the object from you FSX installation at any time.   Deleting marks the object to be removed from the list.   You will need to save the changes with the Save button for this to become permanent.

10. Delete All

Marks all the objects shown in the object list for deletion.   See the notes on what gets deleted and when under the entry for the Delete button.

11. Read Only Data

The information on the right side of Library Object Manager shows details of the currently selected object in the object list.   The first two items Library and Guid are read only and cannot be changed.

12. Name

Name of the object.   This is derived from the name stored in the model file for the object.   You can, of course, change this to suit your needs.   Please note that this does not change the name in the model file.   The Library Object Manager is only storing references to information in the model and does not store the model itself.

13. Category

Category is something related only to Library Object Manager.   You can enter anything you like here although it makes sense to come up with a list of categories that you will find useful when working with objects.   Note that if you spell a category differently for different objects then you will get more than one category.   The Category Filter is based on the categories that you enter.

14. Footprint

X, Y – Width and length of the bounding box.   This is the rectangle displayed in ADE for the object.   It is initially taken from the model itself.   However these are not always accurate and you may wish to adjust these where the rectangle in ADE does not accurately represent the footprint in FSX.

15. Facing

Facing – Generally we would expect one side of an object to be the front.   ADE assumes that the front of an object is the one facing the direction of the heading and puts a small black dot on that face of the rectangle.

You do not always get what you expect.   So if the object is not oriented as you expect you can change the Facing value 90deg at a time until the object is positioned correctly to your taste

16. Thumbnail Folder

By default Airport Design Editor uses the Thumbs Folder inside the ADE application folder.   You may already have a collection of images that you want to use or keep the images in a different folder.   The only requirement is that the thumbnail name must contain the object Guid in FSX format and be a .jpg.   IMPORTANT NOTE   When you change the thumbnail folder ADE clears the Thumbnail index.   If it did not do this that thumbnails from your previous folder could still be displayed rather than thumbnails from the new folder

17. Find Thumbnail

Click this to search for an existing image to use.

18. Capture New Thumbnail

19. Save

Closes Library Object Manager and makes any changes permanent

20. Cancel

Closes Library Object Manager without making any changes permanent
