1. Initials

Set or change your initials here.   These are used to form part of the filenames for an airport project

2. Message Display

Sets the time in seconds that temporary messages like Saved or Compiled   will be displayed

3. Autosave Interval

Set the time between auto saves.

4. Locking Disables Editing

Locking an airport element will stop it being accidentally moved or deleted.   If this is checked the locked objects cannot be edited either.

5. Include Approaches

Advanced Feature: In the current version Airport Design Editor does not allow users to edit or create approaches however if you are an advanced user who wants the approach code to be included in the ADE Bgl files then check this option.   This will also exclude the approaches from the stock file so that the ADE project provides the approach code

6. Auto Check Updates

Airport Design Editor has an on-line update checker.   This is called each time the program starts.   It works best if you have a permanent connection to the internet.   If you do not then you should uncheck this to avoid getting the error messages that will be generated when ADE cannot find the update site.   If you are using the Auto Update Check then please remember to allow ADE through your firewall!

7. Logging Level

Airport Design Editor logs what is going on to a file called ade_yyyymm.log where yyyy is the current year and mm is the current month.   This is a very useful diagnostic tool in the case of the program not working as expected and you will be asked to provide this file when reporting a bug or other problem.   There are three levels of logging.   You should always leave this at Normal unless asked to change it by the support team.   Higher logging levels (especially full) can cause significant performance degradation of the program

8. Comment

Anything entered in here will be added to the file name.   This is not generally used now

9. Auto Surface Setting

Parking and Apron (Path) taxiway links do not display a surface but should take on the surface of the underlying apron (if there is one).   due to a bug in FSX it is possible for these link types to show a surface.   ADE can automatically handle the setting of surfaces for these types of taxiway.   It is recommended that you leave this checked unless you want to handle these taxi surfaces yourself and understand the implications of doing so.

10. Save XML after Compile

Advanced Feature: Bgl scenery files are compiled from XML source.   In most cases you should not need this source code.   By default Airport Design Editor with not save the XML.   Hoever if you are an advanced user that would like to have access to the XML then check this option.   The source will be saved in the same folder as the Bgl file.

11. Separate Airport and Object Bgl Files

Advanced Feature: By default Airport Design Editor generates a single Bgl file containing both airport elements and scenery elements (exclusions, scenery objects and models).   However if you wish them to be compiled into separate Bgl files then check this option.
