Paths

Paths

Airport Design Editor needs paths to some important folders set to work properly.   The easiest way to do this is to click the Find button and ADE will search the registry for the entries it needs.   If it cannot find them then you can look for them yourselves.   However it should be noted that if ADE cannot find these paths then there may be something wrong generally with your setup.   Be particularly aware of not finding BglComp or Shp2Vec.   This may indicate that you do not have the SDK installed.

1. Find button

Use this to have ADE find the paths it needs automatically by searching the registry.

2. BglComp

BglComp is the Microsoft compiler that creates the scenery bgl files from your projects.   These are the files that FSX reads to construct the scenery.   Without access to BglComp ADE cannot create files for use in FSX.

3. Shp2Vec

Airport Design Editor can help you with some terrain features like flattening the area around the airport and removing trees and buildings that may encroach onto runways or aprons.   Shp2Vec is that Microsoft compiler that converts the information in the ADE project into bgl files that FSX uses to show the terrain.

4. FSX

Airport Design Editor first uses information from FSX to create databases of airports, navigation aids and scenery objects.   It also needs to know where FSX is located so that you can connect to it and save the results of your work so that FSX can display it. It is not really sensible to use ADE if you do not have FSX!
