The MSFS SDK appears to provide a range of ways to exclude base data from  MSFS so it can be replaced with user developed content.  Unfortunately we are still trying to understand what does which and what does not.  There are four ways in MSFS

  • Exclusion Rectangle.  This is the same method as found in FSX/P3D with some extra elements added
  • Airport Delete Record.  This is not present in base airports but is added to third party projects to allow the exclusion of airport elements.  Again this is the same as present in FSX/P3D but with some extra elements included
  • Scenery Polygon.  Similar to land class polys this performs a number of functions including exclusion of  autogenerated buildings.
  • Delete Navigation.  This is new to MSFS and sits outside the Airport Record.  It appears to cover much of the same things as the Airport Delete Record although it appears to be intended for excluding navaids etc where there is no  airport present in the project.  It is not present in base files but will be added into a project by ADE.

ADE generates add-on airports for the sim and important sections not found in base airports allow the user to exclude elements from base files.  Make sure to set the Delete Airport and if needed the Delete Navigation flags

This is a draft table showing the different mechanisms and expected effects.  Some work and others do not.
